Fence Line & Right-of-Way Clearing in Gilmer, TX

Overgrown fence rows, property lines, easements and ranch roads cut back to a clean strip you can fence, survey and drive.

Fence Lines in Gilmer

Fence lines disappear fast in Smith County. Yaupon and briar grow up through the wire, sweetgum saplings push the posts over, and within a few years you cannot walk the line, let alone fix it. Property lines go the same way, and so do pipeline easements, power line rights-of-way and the ranch roads that get you to the back of the place. I clear those strips back to a clean, consistent width the whole length of the line. For a fence that means mulching the brush off the old wire so you can pull it and set new posts, with a buffer on each side so it does not close back in by next summer. For a property line it means opening a clear sight line so a surveyor can find the pins and you can see where your land stops. For easements and lanes it means a strip wide enough to drive and maintain. Linear clearing is its own kind of work: you need a clean edge, a steady width and a machine that can work tight along wire without tearing up the pasture on either side. That is what the mulcher does best, and I do a lot of it on ranchettes and acreage from Lindale to Jacksonville and Canton to Gilmer.

Land clearing in Gilmer

Gilmer is the Upshur County seat, about 35 miles northeast of Tyler where Hwy 155, Hwy 271 and Hwy 300 meet, a courthouse town famous for the East Texas Yamboree every October and surrounded by some of the heaviest pine timber in the region. Lake Gilmer sits northwest of town, Lake O’ the Pines is a short drive east, and the hills from Big Sandy up through Pritchett and Union Grove are loblolly and shortleaf pine, red oak and sweetgum on red sandy clay, with a yaupon understory and poultry houses tucked into the clearings. This is timber country first. The tracts I clear around Gilmer are hunting and recreational land, homesites carved out of family timber, pasture that was let go and has come back in sweetgum and pine seedlings, and long fence lines on ranch ground that have grown shut. I underbrush tracts so the owner can walk and hunt them, open homesites and drives while keeping the big pines, mulch sweetgum back off pasture, clear fence rows and lanes, and take out the storm-damaged and beetle-killed pines that lean toward a house or a chicken house. The clay hills gully when they are stripped, so mulching in place is how I work here. One operator, one machine, a per-acre or per-job price set after I walk the land with you.

  • Fence rows mulched clean so posts can be set and wire stretched
  • Property lines opened for sight, survey and marking
  • Pipeline, utility and access easements cleared to width
  • Ranch roads, lanes and lease roads reopened
  • Clean edge and steady width the full length of the line
  • Mowable buffer left so the line stays open

Common Clearing Scenarios in Gilmer

The land clearing jobs I see most around here, and how I handle them.

Heavy pine timber with yaupon underneath

Upshur County woods are as thick as East Texas gets, and most tracts here are a solid yaupon understory under tall pine. I mulch the understory to open the woods and leave the timber standing, so the tract is walkable, huntable and still has its value.

Pasture coming back in sweetgum and pine seedlings

Pasture around Gilmer that goes a few years without shredding fills in with sweetgum saplings and volunteer pine. Mulching takes it back to open ground in a pass and leaves chips on the clay instead of bare dirt.

Hazard pines around homes and poultry houses

Beetle-killed and storm-cracked pines are a constant here, and they lean toward houses, barns and chicken houses. I drop them in sections where the space is tight and grind the stumps so the ground is safe and mowable.

Fence Lines in Gilmer: FAQs

Is Gilmer inside your service area?
Yes. Gilmer is about 35 miles northeast of Tyler, at the edge of my radius but well inside it, and the timber country from Big Sandy up through Gilmer to Lake O’ the Pines is a regular part of my work.
Can you clear a homesite out of family timber and keep the pines?
That is most of what I do up here. I open the pad, drive and septic area and mulch the understory on the rest, so the house sits in the pines instead of on a bare red clay pad. Flag the trees you care about and I work around them.
How do you handle steep red clay?
By mulching rather than scraping. The chip layer the mulcher leaves holds the slope through the next storm, where a bare dozer cut gullies. If a hillside is too steep for the machine to work safely, I tell you when we walk it.
Can you clear a fence line without wrecking the existing fence?
Yes. I work tight and controlled along standing wire, grinding the brush and briars off the fence without pulling the posts. If the fence is already destroyed by growth through it, I will tell you what is worth saving and what is easier to replace once the line is open.
How wide a strip do you clear?
It depends on what the line is for. A fence wants a strip wide enough to set posts and stretch wire with a mower width on each side. Pipeline and utility easements often have a required width. Tell me what the strip is for and I clear a clean, consistent line to match.
Can you open up a property line so I can get it surveyed?
That is a common job. I clear a sight line along the boundary so the surveyor can find the pins and shoot the line, and so you can see your corners from the road. If you know roughly where the pins are, flag them and I will clear to them.
